Year 3 Production & Post Production

The following is a collection of the work I have done over the production period of this project. My main role in production has been the animator, animating everything for the film as well as being director and overseeing the layouts Mori has been doing and directing any post production work he has done. We then shared the post production stage as we both are familiar with after effects and other post programs.

The first thing I tried to tackle is the 3D Street.

With the 3D street complete enough for now, I then set onto my main task during this production aside from direction which was animating.

CREATING THE CITY SHOT

The first shot I wanted to deal with is the beginning city shot. This was going to be a massive shot as we were going to be zooming right in and out of the picture so therefore the image needed to be huge. As we are working in 1080p the image needed to be at least four times this size to preserve quality.

Animating

I had already created the backgrounds for the street sequences as they were going to be the 3D backgrounds. Therefore I rendered these shots out to use as templates to animate to.

I would then use photoshops export video frames to layers function to add the videos into a animated sequence of frames for me to animate the character animation onto.

This meant I could very accurately match my animation tot he animated backgrounds, much like you would you use a static background but with dynamic camera movements accounted for.

Below is a selection of my rough and finished animations for the film.

The film was going to feature a mixture of handrawn traditional animation and a more modern after effects heavy style of animating much like cut out. This was firstly because I really enjoy this style of animation but it also lends itself extremely useful when pushed for time as we were going to be for this film due to its complexity and length.
